About the Artist

Borne in Guatemala to a family and community of folk artists and hand-crafters where making was as much for function as for pleasure. Since then I've regarded art as having multi-purposes and dimensions for the maker as for the viewer. Today I mostly make art for pleasure, and teach art classes at The Art School at Laguna Gloria and do arts programming and art curating for Austin Public Library at Little Walnut Creek Branch.

Artist Statement

Art-making has played a vital role throughout my life. It has taught me to see the world more intently, it helped me communicate before I could speak English, it has been a comfort and therapy in dark times, and it has helped me build my community. But as I mature I feel a sense of responsibility and a growing urgency to use the power of art to advocate for survivors of abuse, injustice, and inhumanity. Art can speak the truth and shed light on darkness.
