About the Artist

I was born and raised in Munich, Germany, attended Ludwig-Maximilian-University, earned a MA in Linguistics and Medieval Literature. My university years were followed by a career in publishing. In 2000, I moved to the U.S. My first years in Austin were focused on family. I organized trips to Italy and Germany, so that friends and family from both continents could meet and explore land and culture together. While I have always been creative, it wasn’t until 2013 that I finally allowed myself to dive into my artistic potential with kiln-formed glass. I took classes with Paul Tarlow (Austin, TX), Bob Leatherbarrow (Salt Spring Island, Canada , Jeremy Lepisto (NSW, Australia), Joanne Teasdale (Nova Scotia, Canada), and Linda Ethier (Portland, OR) and I am constantly experimenting and evolving. Austin and its people are kind and encouraging to me! So I am excited not only to show my art, but also to offer insight in my creative process: from inspiration and planning to testing and making to reviewing and finishing kiln-formed glass.

Artist Statement

At the core of my being and my art is an unquenchable thirst for exploration – both of ideas, dreams, and connections and also materials and techniques. My life is unique, and yet I am part of a community. As such, I hope to make art that visualizes a dream, a feeling, or a concept that is relevant not only to me but also to others and that meets a deeply human need. A moment of awe might fulfill an acute longing for discovery and joy. A piece might allay an essential thirst for beauty and repose. I hope to stir the beholder, instigate curiosity and creativity in the viewer, and just maybe make someone feel less alone with their thoughts, ideas, conflicts and feelings.
