Artist Statement

I’m living my dream of creating art full time. In 2019 I quit my 19-year corporate career in order to focus on my dream of creating art full time. In 2020, when COVID hit, I began to work with ceramics and pottery again. I had only taken one pottery class back in Junior College in the 90’s and hadn’t touched clay since. I’ve had such an exciting pottery journey since then.I love being outdoors, immersed and recharging in nature. I get most of my inspiration from colors, patterns, textures, animals, and natural surroundings.Working with clay is very satisfying to me. I’m able to incorporate many of my interests into creating art with one medium. I’m able to work the clay with my hands and satisfy my need for physical creation and problem solving. I have a laser engraver and am able to transform my hand-drawn artwork and digital graphics into stamps and patterns for unique textures and patterns to use on the clay. I’m able to carve clay, and, by using underglaze painting techniques, I hand-paint my original artwork onto the unfired clay. The glaze colors are endless and a kiln opening is like waiting for Christmas morning...you never know what surprises await! I look forward to growing my skill-set with this medium and seeing where my ideas take me.
