About the Artist
I’m a retired physicist who paints. Because of my professional training, I’m keenly interested in the interaction of paint flow, adjacent colors, and the physical application of paint. These interests find expression in color-field paintings, energetic abstraction (paint forced to the canvas in a stream from a nozzle), and spray painting. In spray painting, I’m specifically interested in the contrasting interaction of paint with words – “word painting”. I’ve been participating in the Big Medium shows for ten years. My first award for artistic work was a third place in the Oklahoma State Fair, for a still life of my baseball hat, glove, and ball when I was nine years old. It has been a long journey.
Artist Statement
I work with paint density, flow, and color, making color-field and energetic action paintings, inviting an emotional and intellectual resonance with paint, void, and chance. In addition, this year I will be showing a set of word paintings inspired by the “Magic 8 Ball”: such as “As I See It Yes”, in addition to other word painting topics.
