About the Artist
Coulbury Design started out as a furniture company, but an art exhibit invitation broadened our horizons to include an ever evolving series of functional art pieces. Doesn’t everyone need a wooden purse? Or a cutting board you can hang on the wall? We love watching people embrace art into their everyday lives. After 20 years, we are still enthralled with the natural beauty found in wood’s textures and patterns.
Dan Coulbury grew up in Austin, and started out making wood and metal art furniture in 1996, after taking a few metal working classes at ACC and the Dougherty Art Center. Over 20 years later, he’s explored a variety of styles and mediums, but keeps returning to wood pieces with smooth clean lines. Jessica Coulbury came to Austin from Canada in the late 1980s. Her woodworking career had a slow start, after only being allowed to use two tools in her shop class in high school. She returned to woodworking decades later, once her kids were a little older, and she could run out to the shop behind the house. Over the last 6 years, Jessica has become more and more adept, and loves creating functional pieces with elaborate patterns.
