About the Artist

My goal is to depict subjects as part of their environment and to bend the figure-ground relationship. I am fascinated by our ability to put together information to identify things without being given all the information. My work has evolved from a goal of capturing the essence of my subject with painterly strokes and trying to hide the image in the picture plane. How little information can I give and still show the subject? I am attracted by works with strong notan structure and strong composition that play between photorealistic, impressionistic, and abstract to create a unified whole. I also like to hide threes and fives in my work.
