About the Artist
David Carrales received a camera at age 17 and thought it was the worst Christmas gift ever. Little did he know where the camera would take him as a documentary photographer/visual artist in the pursuit of beauty. He is captivated by a wide range of subjects…artists, musicians, boxers, flora, fauna, and landscapes, in nature or on the streets. He has exhibited at the Austin Studio Tour since 2016. He is currently an AmeriCorps artist-in-residence at Imagine Art, a local arts organization serving artists with disabilities.
Artist Statement
“The Girl with the Rotisserie Chicken Earring and Other Artist Portraits” exhibition features photographic images of artists that reflect the influence of photographers Arnold Newman and Mary Randlett. These environmental portraits are intended to reveal aspects of the artist’s personality and serve as memorable snapshots along their artistic journey.
