About the Artist
DeLoné is a self taught artist. She uses her work as a way to heal her own traumas, the traumas of her ancestors & recently the people who see her work. Through spiritual practices & ancestral work she incorporates the messages she receives via dreams and meditation into her art. Growing up multi-racial & queer, it was important to her to find her sense of self and where she fit in within her communities. Art has helped her accomplish this. Her work has become an embodiment of herself and the divine in a way that also lets the viewer see divine in themselves.
Artist Statement
Our home was stolen from us. Both my Indigenous and Black roots have lost our physical home. We live in a society that has stripped everything from us, then rebranded and sold it back. We try to preserve what is left through our culture, which is what this work is centered around. Through learning about the spiritual practices of my heritages and doing ancestral work in an effort to heal generational trauma, I incorporate these subjects into my work. I am trying to bring power back to myself and my family. I have come to understand how I am the one my ancestors prayed for. I use my work to heal and break these cycles through art.
