About the Artist

I am an Austin based artist who specializes in acrylic and ink drawings. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs but fell in love with the boldness of Texas. I have done art my entire life but never took it seriously until I moved to Texas 3 years ago. Professionally I am a civil engineer, but I find beauty in a line that isn't straight.

Artist Statement

My art is a combination of imagination, nature, and the idea that life is not perfect. I use black lines as if my paintbrush is an ink pen. I work with bold colors because a life without color is a life I do not want to live in. My professional background is in engineering and I use my art to explore the less than exact side of life. During the pandemic, I was deeply enthralled by the Austin skyline. When I created it in my art, I did not use a straight edge. Instead, I found the beauty in a line that is not perfect. After this, I traveled to Big Bend National Park and found a connection between mountains and the city. Ever since moving to Austin, I have been fascinated with the cacti of Texas, especially after the devastating winter storm of 2021. After seeing the destruction of the cacti I wanted to capture their beauty like that of a skyscraper or a mountain. I want to make the prickly pear as big and commanding as a mountain peak.My art explores a world where skyscrapers, mountains, and cacti are all equal.-Hannah Zeeb, 2021
