About the Artist
Jennifer Conroy grew up in Austin in the 70s and 80s, immersed in nature and art, a dog always at her heal, often knee-deep in Waller Creek. After finishing college at the University of Texas she went on to complete Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Her work since has included public health research and consulting (1995-2015), and more recently she has purchased and remodeled several houses (2010-2019), which provide a modest income and time to focus on art. A potter’s daughter, Jennifer grew up dabbling in clay and was encouraged to pursue the arts. But it wasn’t until she retired from public health that she began teaching and producing pottery (Feats of Clay, 2014-2017 and Two Goats Pottery, 2017-present). In 2018 she began to study painting at Austin Community College. She has participated in painting workshops with Larry Moore (Maine, 2017 and 2019), at Laguna Gloria (Austin, 2021), and with plein air painters in Round Rock (2014-2019). She has shown at the East Austin Studio Tour (2018, 2019), Austin Community College (2018-2019), the Downtowner Gallery (Round Rock, 2017), and ReImagine Art in Round Rock (2020).
Some folk’s creativity thrived during the pandemic. What better way to pass the time at home than create? My creative energy was spent on worry, thrift, herding my people to safer places and practices, and on my own basic mental and physical health. Saving. Hunkering down. Staying away. Making it. But many people didn’t make it. Thankfully, most of my people did, and I am so grateful. Now at last, a vaccine. Freedom. Togetherness. Community. Family. Reunited again. Hugs. Laughter. Touch! My work this year is about celebrating togetherness. Coffee and tea with a friend. Cooking together. Pulling close the people that matter most and spoiling them with a memorable meal. My pottery will be presented on an extravagant 14 foot dining table designed to please friends and facilitate conversation. Unique place settings, serving dishes, candelabras, and conversational sculpture will be on display and flanked by my paintings. Of travel. Nature. The things that held me over for these long months. Breath a sigh of relief and gratitude with me and enjoy the abundance of the most exquisite dining experience deserves with these handmade pieces, glazed and fired here at my home studio. The goal is to provide the perfect table to mirror the comfort, love and serenity of being connected again. Can I inspire you to spoil your loved ones? To spare no effort in celebrating shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, making and breaking bread with your people during the holidays? Please, be my guest!
