About the Artist
Lauren is a photographer, mixed media artist, painter, and filmmaker. When she isn’t in the studio you can find her running, DIY-ing something, doing hot yoga, snorkeling, hiking with her family, or cliff jumping in the Texas hill country.
I photograph what I find beautiful or what I want to remember. I’m influenced by photojournalism, street photography, and fashion photography. Most of my photos are from my travels for work. I took several thousand photos when I went to Montenegro for 6 weeks. My mixed media explores the juxtaposition of images. Removed from their original context and placed in another, the relationships between images change our perception of them. This is much like the process of editing a movie and I have worked as a filmmaker for a number of years. I fell love with mixed media when I took a collage class in college. Over the past decade I’ve managed to collect a number of items for my work: math homework I found on the ground, old magazines, produce bags, maps, etc. These found objects have inspired many of my pieces. Some of my influences for mixed media are Jeanne Minnix, Kurt Schwitters, and Mark Bradford.
