About the Artist
Lawrence Jolly is a studio artist who lives and works in Round Rock, Texas. As the former owner of Austin graphic design firm—Jolly Design—and graduate of UT/Austin with a BFA in design, Lawrence is the recipient of the 2016 City of Austin Peoples Choice Award, Austin ArtBoards winner, and subject of numerous other shows, exhibits and accolades. His work connects through visual allegory our spiritual and natural selves in richly rendered medium- and large-format oil paintings and mixed media dimensional pieces. His studies of children, adults, and animals situated in ethereal environmental settings reflect the humanism of Caravaggio and Rockwell combined with the whimsy of Dali in a completely unique and energetic contemporary realist style. He currently serves as a Board Member with Georgetown Art Works, and with various community and civic organizations.
Artist Statement
As a Contemporary Narrative Realist, Lawrence Jolly tells exquisite stories that seek to connect human nature with divine nature. Jolly’s work is an amalgam of boldly rendered figurative, animal, and environmental subject matter, woven into magically ethereal settings in oil and mixed media. A joyful mash-up of Dalli and Rockwell, his paintings and mixed media works explore emotional, spiritual, and physical connections we have within ourselves and with each other…all emanating from intimate glimpses into the artist’s life experiences.
