About the Artist
I am a stained glass and mixed media artist working in Austin for over 25 years now. I began working with traditional stained glass in the mid 1990's having trained with experts in the field Ted and Jan Weiser of Cathedral Stained Glass. I create a wide range of art work, from traditional window panels to wall art incorporating found items that requires no background illumination.
Artist Statement
Having made traditional stained glass windows and doors for more than 25 years I began experimenting with different techniques about 10 years ago to stretch my talents and see just what was possible in this medium. In the past much of my work had a utilitarian aspect. I have since turned to creating art to express the imagery of music, literature, dreams and spiritual exploration as well as for the love of the material and what can be fashioned with it. A lot of glass doesn’t need background illumination, so art objects designed to hang on a wall rather than in a window are possible. Incorporating found elements, I frequently create dimensional art. Some objects have been collected by me over many years. Some items were collected while traveling, such as the shells, rocks and coins, or were gifts that got damaged with use, including some of the ceramics and molded glass. Other objects were searched for in junk shops, garage sales and thrift stores to fulfill the need of specific art pieces. My inspiration comes in a variety of ways. Some works are embellished depictions of specific locations, favorite religious iconography or fanciful interpretations of imagery from literature. I am currently exploring surreal and cubist expression in stained glass and incorporating a more difficult techniques of layering glass or other materials for unusual effects
