Lynda Young Kaffie

About the Artist

LYNDA YOUNG KAFFIE is best known for her contemplative approach to the landscape. Her paintings capture a moment in time as seen both directly through the artist's eye as well as from her memory of a particular experience. In her paintings, Young Kaffie works primarily with oils, most often, in a long, horizontal format. Layering thin, transparent veils of vibrant color on canvas and paper, Young Kaffie creates a sense of depth which allows the viewer to enter into the light and color of an instant of focused attention. Travel to explore landscapes around the world - both the familiar as well as the unfamiliar - fires her imagination and is the source of Young Kaffie's inspiration.

Artist Statement

In this new series of paintings, I am aware of just how much the practice of living in the present moment has become an integral part of my creative process. Walking, hiking, sitting, riding, and even just awakening, my eye is alert to nature’s visual surprises. When my attention is captured by a moment in time – a moment which brings me to a halt of amazement, I record what I see before me.Back in the studio, armed with both a physical record as well as the intangible of my visual memory, I begin the practice of unveiling the experience through thin layers of oil paint laid down on prepared paper or canvas. The end result is a narrative of light, time, moment, and memory.
