About the Artist
Art got into me rather than me getting into Art. During my childhood, our family lived in such beautiful environments as Jackson Hole Wyoming, Alamosa CO, and then in my “hometown” of Durango, CO. On weekends we spent time out of doors “in nature”, at Yellowstone National Park WY, Great Sand Dunes National Park CO, and in the high country above Durango CO. This proximity to nature and my Dad and Mom's enthusiasm for being out in it is an eternal inspiration. After I graduated from college with the encouragement of my wonderful college art professor and mentor, Stanton Englehart, I took a teaching job as an Art Instructor on the Navajo Reservation. I also did plein air watercolor paintings. Weekends were spent four wheeling the amazing red rock landscape of Monument Valley and surrounding area. This landscape inspired a series of drawings as well. On weekends I painted plein air with watercolors and continued to sketch with pencil. Later my husband and I lived in Hawaii for several years, where I continued to paint with transparent watercolors. After Hawaii we moved to Austin TX, where I fell in love with the beauty of the Central TX Hill Country.
I am inspired by the Natural world, and it's many aspects. Nature is my source for artistic “meditation”. In this vision, I seek to remind myself and my viewers that we are part of a wonderful array of life on and beyond our beautiful planet. I paint in series exploring the chosen medium completely and with abandon, leading the viewer towards my vision of the serenity and transient beauty of nature. The most unique aspect of my work is that it draws the viewer into a setting of landscape, botanic still life, or abstract landscape presented in a form based on nature but which does not aspire to realism. My subject matter is filtered and created from my heart connection to nature, leading the viewer into a setting of beauty which I call “feelism”. I paint in series exploring the chosen medium completely and with abandon, leading the viewer towards my vision of the serenity and transient beauty of nature.
