About the Artist
Matangi Mahakali (she/they) is a queer, non-binary, disabled, Indian transdisciplinary artist, painter, tattoo artist and entrepreneur. They recently moved to Austin from Brooklyn, NY to become an artist and pursue their passions full time. They graduated from Syracuse University, School of Architecture in 2019, where they explored topics such as rituals, duality, umwelt, contradiction, nothingness, the ineffable and materiality. They continue to research and investigate these topics and are looking forward to expressing their findings through art and installations.
Is it possible to float and stay grounded? Is it possible to be in order and chaos? Is it possible to interact, and also not? Is it possible to be rigid, while also being soft? Is it possible to be, while not?My work iteratively experiments with showing seemingly impossible and contradictory systems, live and co-inhabit together, become one another & dissolving boundaries and barriers to invoke discomfort and strange emotions. It defines dualities, to break them down, a cyclical feedback loop in material and interaction."
