NJ Weaver is an abstract artist working in encaustic, mixed media and printmaking. Living in New Mexico was inspiration for fiber arts & photography. Texas is home and she returned to Austin in 2004. A chance encaustic class was the beginning of NJ's art journey. This is her eleventh year participating in the East Austin Studio Tour. Her abstract paintings and original prints are collected nationally and internationally. NJ is a member of Women Made Gallery (Chicago) and for the past seven years has been a PrintAustin board member. She currently works from her home studio outside of Austin.
2020 is a year of ebb and flow in my artistic creativity. A year that has summoned taking chances, replaced a comfortable way of being with living in a place of vulnerability, and taught me to move forward in an uncertain landscape.
My experimental drawings spring organically from a place of rawness; light and dark punctuated by flashes of color. These drawings are more spontaneous with no framing, just works on paper that offer freedom, healing, and an optimistic future.
