About the Artist

NJ Weaver is an abstract artist working in encaustic, mixed media and printmaking. Living in New Mexico was inspiration for fiber arts & photography. Returning to Austin in 2004, an encaustic class was the beginning of NJ’s art journey. This is her twelfth year participating in the East Austin Studio Tour. Her abstract paintings and original prints are collected nationally and internationally. NJ is a PrintAustin board member since 2014. A collection of her paintings & works will be on view at Texas State University Round Rock in an exhibit in August – October featuring the works of eight female abstract artists. NJ currently works from her home studio outside of Austin.

Artist Statement

The theme this year, for me, has been the Randomness of Creativity. Keeping intuitive channels open where there is no structure has been a challenge to remain focused in creative play.I first start by making marks on a surface. The marks are meditative and start a flow that includes color, texture, and form. My intention is for each painting to speak to the viewer in any way they choose to perceive it. Whether it is inspirational, hopeful or happiness, the feelings conveyed are of the purest of intention.
