Artist Statement
An artist, curator, art educator, creative expression mentor, Jean Pierre Verdijo has devoted his professional life to the arts.
As a queer cis gendered man of a multi ethnic background and an eclectic spiritual life, his work seeks to find commonality within diverse experiences, and cultures.
Unity, reverence, and the realized human potential are central themes in his studio work. Serving as a teaching artist with Creative Action, and painting murals with youth communities such as Austin Justice Coalition and homeless shelters around Austin, help him stay connected to the roots of advocacy and activism that are central to his credo.
He currently lives and works in Austin, where he raises two children, and a small front yard garden and orchard. Mixed media, painting, and photograph are his main mediums.
