About the Artist
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I grew up with a love of both nature and animals. From an early age I was never without a pencil and paper, recording the daily activities of the world around me. As a child I loved to draw portrait after portrait of my dogs and cats, always honing my skills. Fast forward and now I paint to satisfy an expression of joy I feel when I observe impelling colors, shapes, lines, and patterns. I draw inspiration from what has been, what is, and all things that are possible and sometimes impossible. I embed songs, words, marks and emotion into every layer of a painting to create an image that is a reflection of a part of myself.
Artist Statement
For me, art is a way to document fleeting moments in time, such as a shy smile, or the intricate patterns of a blooming flower. I often use nature as my muse, particularly in my latest works with acrylic on canvas. I have continued to explore abstract marks and shapes to represent shadowy and mysterious landscapes. bokeh: (BOH-kay) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". Bokeh is my obsession. I enjoy exploring the intimacy, color, and play of light that bokeh brings to photography, trying to interpret those qualities with paint and brush. I use marks, patterns, and layers of color to create images that push the boundary between abstraction and imagery. Why deutschemexicana? (doy-tcha-meh-hee-kah-nah) I’m all Texan but my personality and attitude stems from a combined German/Mexican heritage.
