About the Artist

Robin Cheers is an artist working in the impressionist tradition with a contemporary style focused on representing the figure and every day life. A consummate observer, Robin’s oil paintings celebrate the overlooked or ordinary scenes of modern life. Whether working on site from direct observation or with sketches and photos, Robin’s use of open brushwork and layering textures create light paintings full of color and life.Robin is an active member of her local art community and teaches oil painting classes and leads a weekly mentoring session. She is a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and artist member of the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and an Artist in Residence at the Austin Visual Arts Association ArtSpace.

Artist Statement

My paintings are an exploration and appreciation of the simple beauty of every day life and they capture the human spirit on canvas. By working in the alla prima method, I keep my first response to a scene intact, spontaneous and unlabored. Immediacy is important. Not only because it is often the nature of people, but for me it is the most instinctive way to paint. Through direct observation, I combine spontaneous brushwork, abstract shapes, and solid technical composition to create an illusion of depth and mood. Each painting is like a page from my diary - a shared memory of the places I've been and the people I've met. Images that reflect my love of life and people, creating connection and encouraging us all to reflect on who we are on this shared journey.
