About the Artist

Rubina Anjum is an Austin-based artist. She works extensively with oil paints and watercolors. Her main body of art is the Planet Earth Series One with a total of nineteen paintings. This subject matter is a new idea for artistic expression. She also exhibits works from her Planet Earth Series Two and Three. Numerous paintings of hers were exhibited for six months at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from (Feb till Aug 2019). The TEL Art Gallery in Austin, TX featured Rubina's works in a solo exhibition in the fall of 2019. Rubina has participated in the East Austin Studio Tour for four consecutive years (2017 to 2020). She continually works on a social entrepreneurial project of sharing her creative process and providing free art lessons on various online platforms (YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook and on her website). By doing so she aims to open 21st-century channels to acquire, appreciate, understand, and create art. She embraces the philosophy that creativity will propel us forward as a species.

Artist Statement

I create art inspired by satellite imagery of the earth, a subject matter that befits the space age. To the viewer, I bring these unusual vistas from space blended in with an imaginative interplay of stories and forms of life on earth. My main body of work is a collection of 19 large-scale oil on canvas paintings. The satellite images are taken by the USGS at a distance of approximately 300 miles above the surface of the earth. The centerpiece is an image by NASA taken at a distance of 25,000 miles from the earth. I have rendered these paintings in different artistic styles ranging from realism, impressionism, and expressionism. Satellite images are so intensely unique that they have triggered in me an almost endless flow of creative output. My Planet Earth Series One gave root to Planet Earth Series Two (Chromatic Impressions in Watercolor), & Planet Earth Series Three (Evolving Abstracts). A trip of incredible discoveries of derived meanings present themselves as I probe deeper into new scenarios of earth’s colors and forms.
