About the Artist
Stephanie Strange is an interdisciplinary artist. Her inspiration is energy and how it flows through and connects all things. She expresses this focus by working multidimensional and combining creative intention of subject, medium and method. Her life journey is much like how she creates art, an organic development. She grew up in the Dallas area with a spirit of exploration and positioned her life to learn about different cultures of people, cities, countries, and geographies by living in a variety of situations. From small towns to big cities in Texas, along Lake Michigan in Chicago, being community established in Bastrop, living nomadically and walking through the eastern states, living a bicycle distance from Rotterdam and Amsterdam in The Netherlands then returning to rural Texas with family down a mile long dirt road; living on a writer’s retreat in Austin, to a summer on a sailboat in Arkansas and back to Texas where she now has a nature surrounded studio in the rolling hills of northwest Austin. It is her interest to seek out a broad spectrum of how everything is interconnected and flows together by submerging her life in different arenas and sharing her discoveries through her art.
I don’t create drawings, I express the relationship of the marks in motion to the paper. This is the same practice for other 2D mediums I enjoy placing on paper such as watercolor or typewriter. My creative direction is much like the journey over the destination where I am putting the focus on the process of the work as it is coming into existence. This approach of applying the energy of the now is a creative process that renders the organic quality to my work. I find it inspirational and challenging, ultimately inspirational due to enjoying the challenge of flowing conceptual ideas into relative forms. For me, the root of this fascination is observable energy emitted or better said, transferred, by living matter. My two favorite sources are found in nature and in the human condition; especially with the combination of both. There is something very beautiful to be able to witness and share the story of life communicating its state of being. It is my intention that my art with its simple elements of lines, shapes and colors invoke the energy through image, idea or feeling of the collective fluidity of what is.
