About the Artist
Stephen Marlow is a 2nd generation artist and potter. Having been raised by two artists/art teachers, art has always been an aspect of his thinking. He says he has tried throwing pots at least once every decade since the age of 10, but only now did it seemed to stick. His formal educational background is in physics and technology and has worked as a general contractor, in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, and taught various subjects at the university level. Retired, he has made his own potter’s wheel out of a recycled car wash robot, rebuilt two old kilns adding a programable controller, and formulates and tests his own glazes. He is a multifaceted artist whose current interest lies in ceramics.
Artist Statement
Art is about discovery through play. That's what I do. I play in the mud and discover the vast depths and shallow ponds of the universe through it. Whether building a scratch build control panel for a kiln, an up cycled fire-hydrant turned pug-mill, chemistry tinkering formulas for glaze, its all experimental. It's all learning, constant and forever learning.
