About the Artist

Wendy Mitchell is a multimedia visual artist, seamstress, and writer. She has been living and working as an artist in Austin since 2001. Wendy has operated The Stuffed Animal Rescue Foundation, an ongoing art installation and actual rescue endeavor, since 2009. The project uses art and storytelling to create value for once-abandoned objects. In addition to rescuing stuffed animals, Wendy creates illuminated resin sculptures (with The Silent City, a multi-part sound and light installation series), makes interactive sound-activated videos, writes creative non-fiction, and plays a lot of volleyball. Her work has been shown at the The Museum of Human Achievement, Studium, First Street Studios, and the Elisabet Ney Museum.

Artist Statement

The Stuffed Animal Rescue Foundation's group art show features painting, video, textiles, photography, and conceptual pieces created by rescued stuffed animals (and highly curated by artist, writer, and rescuer Wendy Mitchell). Stuffed animal artists exhibit works inspired by their journeys of rehabilitation and redemption. Stuffed artists are available for adoption.
