Lydia Garcia

About the Artist

Lydia Garcia is a native Central Texan with a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. Along with her active studio practice she created Ochre and Iron, an entity that creates natural ink and pigments from regional ingredients with a focus on experimentation and communal education.

Artist Statement

Lydia Garcia is a visual artist exploring the character of organic materials and the human behaviors that alter the elements in a landscape. Through abstract images created on various substrates, Lydia works with light, video and paintings. Raw pigments and handmade colors produce organic formations and ambient environments through a process of experimentation. She is interested in the temporal limitations on organic materials such as plants, geological forms, and natural chemicals.
