Artist Statement

"Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose, won't you let me go down in my dreams?" - James Taylor

Making pottery for me is intrinsically in service of others- my goal is to make things that bring lovely, soul-soothing moments into the every day necessity of using functional objects. I gravitate towards colors, forms and textures that evoke serenity and simplicity in this intricate world. I look to those spaces and moments in life that provide calm, peace, non constrictive and unburdened presence for inspiration. Usually, for me, those moments happen outside. I make my own glazes using recipes handed down between potters from around the world - which have been workshopped and shared amongst potters- and then workshopped again by me, yielding my own unique collection of handmade glazes. I enjoy the texture and colors of glazed surfaces so much, I like to keep it simple and let the glaze speak for itself. It's a combination of years of practice throwing pots on the wheel, and the simple, yet complex surfaces I can create with glaze and my electric kiln.
