I was born and raised in Austin and I have always been a maker. Since my mother was an avid gardener and my father had a woodworking shop, I grew up both covered in and appreciating dirt and sawdust. I am self taught through experimentation but have taken art and design classes with teachers that inspire me. I had the opportunity to work in a theatre for a number of years and was educated in the art of costuming, prop and set design and construction. It was during this time that I really started to explore different art forms.
Artist Statement
"After women, flowers are the most divine creation" - Christian Dior
In this series, I focused mainly on floral embellishments to add to various subjects but mostly women. I enjoy using vintage photos and old paintings and I love the grainy texture of the old old black and white pictures. Choosing what pictures to use in a composition can be a long process with lots of adding and then editing over and over. Then I hand cut each flower or image to use and that can be a very lengthy process but it is my meditation.
I want to create art that makes people stop and smile. There are some hidden surprises in almost every piece I make that can be random or very deliberate. It is up to the viewer to decide.
