Inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e block prints my paintings are an exploration of the pleasures of everyday life. Through the study of ukiyo-e in my paintings I find myself incorporating my thoughts and visions about life into each piece. My art is not about the color, shape, texture, or skill. It's simply magic.
To live a fully creative life you open yourself up to love, hope, happiness, heartbreak. You open yourself up to people and experiences many non-creative people wouldn't.
I utilize the energy of my emotions to create art which includes photography, painting, video clips, as well as collage.
I'm an only child who grew up on the outside of Chicago in the 1980's. I lived in my head so much I would get in trouble for daydreaming in class. Instead of seeing daydreaming as a weakness, I've turned it into one of my greatest strengths. Art is a safe space for me to express myself, my visions, and share messages I feel are interesting to me. One of the biggest influences in my art is the relationships I have with people as well as my observation of the natural world.
When I'm in front of my canvas I'm my truest self. I use gouache and acrylic paint on canvas, paper, digital graphics, and photos. I have an extensive background in photography with a BA in Photojournalism from MSUD in Denver, CO. My art is an expression of my spiritual journey to enlightenment. My artistic philosophy is similar to Carl Jung's quote, "One who looks outside dreams, one who looks inside awakes."
I use my art to heal myself and to share that process of healing with others through my imagery. Exploring my environment through imagery, emotion, experience, and expression. These are words that describe my work by my friends and family, "Flowing, Inner Goddess, Poetic, Creatively balanced, Ethereal, Organic, Eclectic, Diverse, and Universal." Saying that I have a multifaceted approach to life which is reflected in my art.
Please join me on this journey of life.
