About the Artist

I began my journey with glass in 2004 at a small production glass blowing studio in San Antonio's vibrant Southtown Arts District. Gaining the full experience of day-to-day operations in the hot shop, I learned the ropes as gaffer's assistant, production manager and shop tech. From 2008-2010, I studied glass blowing at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN. Living and learning among other artists and mediums in a craft focused environment enabled me to expand on process and design. From 2011-2015, I owned and operated East Side Glass Studio in Austin, TX where my experience with glass was enriched by instructing workshops, hosting glass blowing demo events and creating an upcycled glass product line. Currently, I am a co-founder, resident artist and instructor at Ghost Pepper Glass in Austin, TX.

Artist Statement

The ability to make coherent work from molten glass is an experience that encompasses both the delightful reward of success and the learning opportunity of failure. At times it is unforgiving and other times full of endless possibility. I will never stop learning from it and that is why I will always keep it near. My last name in Italian means rope maker and in a tangible way, has always translated to process that allows me to stretch hot glass in a multitude of colors and patterns very reminiscent of rope. I make glass rope and use it add color, pattern and texture to my work. I am a Funari, just as my name implies.
